Hi All,
Would anyone know how much time does it take for one to get a new SSN ? If someone is coming from India, how much time they should wait after entering the US before they apply for the SSN ?
Thanks,

All the while we saw people talk about new job matching LC job and not H1 (LCA) job. But it would be nice and safe if you have similar job on LC,LCA, new AC21 job. But mainly the job in LC should be considered as per my knowledge.

Obviously, the prospects for major immigration reform legislation are being dealt a blow this evening. But it looks like the lord of the anti-immigrants - Tom Tancredo - is going down to defeat in the Colorado governor's race. Marco Rubio seemed to push an Arizona-like law for Florida in the election campaign, but his speech this evening was all about the immigrant dream. Perhaps he'll follow in Mel Martinez's footsteps and lead in re-establishing a pro-immigration Republican caucus. Exit polls are showing that immigration was NOT driving most voters decisions. And it's a little early to call it, but it...

Hi,
I have a pending I-140 (RD March 12, 2007) and I-485 (PD Sept 2001, India EB-3, Current in April 2008).
My wife and I, currently have EADs. My wife has been offered a job and they need a Green Card when she joins in May 2008.
Is there a way to expedite the processing of I-140 and I-485, so that we do get our Green Cards in next month or so?

My I-485 application was filed under EB3 category when I was working for my previous employer (PD - October 2006). I changed my job in August 2008, but never sent any documentation for AC21. I now have close to 8 years of experience and also a masters degree (MBA) from a reputed univeristy here in the US.
Now that EB2 dates are so close to October 2006, is there anyway I can port my application from EB3 to EB2? I can initiate this discussion with my current employer and may be able to convince them to help me. But I want to know exactly what needs to be done.
Thanks a lot in advance for your assistance in this matter!

October is usually a month where we see improvements as new visa numbers become available for a new fiscal year. Most categories showed forward movement though few jumps of more than a few months. The exception is the Mexico Family 1st category which jumps a year and a half. EB-3 is available again, but not set at a date particularly close. Most people will not be happy with the dates. Here are the numbers showing comparison to the September Visa Bulletin: Family 1st - Advancement of worldwide, China and India numbers by nine weeks to 22 JUL 2003. Mexico jumps...

On June 25, President Obama met with a bipartisan group of 30 key legislators beginning a dialogue that he hopes will lead to comprehensive immigration reform in 2009 or early in 2010. Among the topics discussed were border security, family reunification and reform of the outdated quota system. Following the meeting, the President stated, but what Im encouraged by is that after all the overheated rhetoric and the occasional demagoguery on all sides around this issue, weve got a responsible set of leaders sitting around the table who want to actively get something done and not put it off until...

Some paras from Congress's Oversight Offensive (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/16/AR2007031601989.html), By David S. Broder (http://projects.washingtonpost.com/staff/email/david+s.+broder/), Sunday, March 18, 2007
Ten weeks into the new Congress, it is clear that revelation, not legislation, is going to be its real product.
While President Bush threatens to use his veto pen to stop some bills and Senate Republicans block other measures from even reaching his desk, no force in Washington can halt the Democrats' investigative juggernaut from uncovering the secrets inside this administration.
For the first six years of the Bush administration, these aides were allowed free rein to carry out whatever policy or political assignments they wished -- or supposed that the president wanted done. A Congress under firm Republican control was somnolent when it came to oversight of the executive branch. No Republican committee chairman wanted to turn over rocks in a Republican administration.
You have to feel a twinge of sympathy now for the Bush appointees who suddenly find unsympathetic Democratic chairmen such as Henry Waxman, John Conyers, Patrick Leahy and Carl Levin investigating their cases. Even if those appointees are scrupulously careful about their actions now, who knows what subpoenaed memos and e-mails in their files will reveal about the past?
They will pay the price for the temporary breakdown in the system of checks and balances that occurred between 2001 and this year -- when the Republican Congress forgot its responsibility to hold the executive branch accountable.
It was a fundamental dereliction of duty by Congress, and it probably did more to encourage bad decisions and harmful actions by executive-branch political appointees than the much-touted lobbying influence. In reality, many Republican members of Congress did not mind what was happening because they were able to get favors done in that permissive climate. Now, the Democratic investigators will publicize instances of influence by members of Congress, and the political fallout will not stop with New Mexico's Pete Domenici and Heather Wilson.
Democrats find it easier to investigate than to legislate. With their major initiatives, from a minimum-wage boost to a shutdown of the Iraq war, stymied by Republican opposition, the Democrats are understandably making "accountability" their new goal -- meaning more and more investigations.
Fulfilling that promise, later in the week the House passed a series of bills that stripped some of the secrecy from executive branch documents and decisions.
Accountability is certainly important, but Democrats must know that people were really voting for action on Iraq, health care, immigration, energy and a few other problems. Investigations are useful, but only legislation on big issues changes lives.

It's a good idea for our iv members to post comments to such articles which disseminates the idea to a greater audience who otherwise wouldn't know the benefits of offering the green cards.

Hello,
I applied AOS in July 07 and was waiting for my and spouse FP till now. Last week I received FP notice for my spouse but her middle name on FP notice is spelled wrong. But her I-485 receipts and EAD are spelled correctly. What do I do ? Do I need to contact them and have it corrected before she appears for the FP appointment. Her FP appointment is next week so there is not much time left. I was thinking , that when she appears for FP appointment to let them know about the spelling mistake.
Members, please share any similar experiences.
My Info:
I-485 applied in July 15 07
